Macmillan Coffee Morning at B-DACS

Earlier in the year the team at B-DACS expressed a real desire to raise money for charity and help a worthwhile cause. After discussions within the team and through finding out that all of us at one point in our lives have been touched by Cancer and the devastation this can bring to a family, we decided that Macmillan Cancer Support was a fantastic charity to start with. As we all like cakes and goodies and we have a few keen bakers within the team it was inevitable that the choice of fundraiser was to hold a coffee morning, especially as we have our very own “Hostess with the Mostess” in our Director Diane.

Once we settled on the type of event we quickly pulled our resources and began to put plans in place, which involved contacting some of our customers to see if they could donate any equipment, prizes or goodies and we were overwhelmed by the generosity of everyone we contacted.

The event was held within our offices on Friday 7th of August and we could not have predicted how fantastically well it went, we set ourselves a target of raising £500 and we raised a total of £1,400 through our Just Giving page and donations on the day. To say we were astounded at the amount raised is an understatement.

During our event we had numerous fund raising activities going on which included a tombola, raffle, guess the sweets in the jar, and guess the amount of dots on the cake sweepstake. For fun we had all our baby photos amongst celebrity baby photos and asked our guests to identify our office team from the photos.

On the 18th of August we welcomed the Local Fundraising Manger from Macmillan Emma Connor and her colleague to the office to present them with a cheque for the total amount raised and Emma advised that this is a fantastic contribution and to put into context this amount would pay for a Macmillan Palliative Care Nurse for one whole week which is amazing  and shoes just how important the fundraising carried out is to Macmillan Cancer Support.

We would once again like to thank all suppliers, customers and family for their support and generosity on the day to help us achieve this fantastic amount, special thanks to our Tea Lady Susan Black, our very own Mary Berry Catherine McKie for the amazing cakes and tea serving, Chief Cake Seller Lesley Robertson and all the staff at B-DACS who attended the even. We couldn’t have pulled it off without you all!

This is just the start of our fundraising efforts to support great causes and there is already talk of ‘Movember’ amongst our Engineers, so watch this space!
